DRIFTWOOD VO BRANDY is a spirit produced by distilling wine, the wine having first been produced by fermenting grapes. The word brandy comes from brandywine, derived from Dutch brandewijn — “burnt wine”. Some may also be made from the pulpy mixture of stems and seeds left after grapes are pressed, and some are made from the fermented juices of fruits other than grapes. Brandy contains 36%–60% alcohol by volume and is normally consumed as an after-dinner drink. While some brandies are aged in wooden casks, most are coloured with caramel to imitate the effect of such aging.

DRIFTWOOD VO BRANDY is aged in wooden casks for 3 years. The process to make brandy varies between the varieties, but there are four basic steps needed. First the fruit is fermented into wine which is then distilled into alcohol. Once the distillation process is complete the aging process begins. This step is the key to differentiate both the quality and variety of the brandy. The final step in brandy production is to blend the liquor to taste. Brandy, like Rum and Tequila, is an agricultural spirit.

Unlike grain spirits such as Whisky, Vodka, and Gin, which are made throughout the year from grain that can be harvested and stored, Brandy is dependent on the seasons, the ripening of the base fruit and the production of the wine from which it is made.
